One of the secrets to my longevity online has been my passion for copywriting & persuasion.

I’ve been full-time in online business since 1996. There have been thousands of changes in the past two decades. But the power of persuasion has stayed consistent. And will continue to be true in the future.

If you can convert more visitors into sales better than the competition, you can afford more traffic, grow your business faster, and earn more profits.

The 3 factors in persuasion are Audience, Offer, and Copy…in that order.

You have to know your audience. You need to make them an offer that is worth considerably more than the asking price. And you need to connect your message with the conversation already going on in their heads.

Here are 3 advanced tricks to creating more effective copy today…

#1 – Position Your Offer as a Mission

You’re not just selling another book about fitness. Ho-hum.

Instead start a revolution for men over 40 who want to reclaim their health. Create a 90 day challenge that goes along with it. Find a way for members to communicate and encourage each other.

Dr. Glenn Livingston and I aren’t just building another business coaching academy. We’re giving people who share our passion for marketing and business a way to build a rewarding and fun career.

Our coaches join our mission to help entrepreneurs earn more, work less, and enjoy life…while making the world a better place.

How can you look at your offer…and expand the results beyond you and your customer? How does it benefit others in their lives? How does it increase their contribution to society?

Even if you’re drawing a blank, there is almost always a way to make this happen. A company selling coats could connect with a charity that gives Coats to Kids…and give a portion of their profits.

Give your customers a way to make the world a better place by partnering with you.

#2 – Create Living Word Pictures

Good copywriting has a lot in common with well-written novels.

You can get lost in a good book. Follow the same pattern with your website.

Help your visitor see the scene you’ve set for them.

Check out this paragraph from an old golf ad by John Carlton which perfectly illustrates this point…

“If you’ve ever wanted to drive a golf ball with the explosive velocity of a howitzer cannon (adding half the length of a football field to your tee shots alone)…while hitting all your fairways and greens with masterful precision…then this will be the most important message you ever read.”

You’re driving the ball with the explosive velocity of a howitzer cannon. How’s that for an emotional image?

You’re adding half a length of a football field. That’s 50 yards…which is an almost unbelievable amount to add to their current drive.

But you can SEE the football field. You’re hitting the fairways and greens.

The entire paragraph is a living word picture.

Bring your reader into your world with a word picture they can see and experience.

#3 – Tell a Triple “P” Story

That stands for Problem, Promise, and Proof.

Tell a story that shares the desperate problem you solve, illustrates your unique promise, and demonstrates overwhelming proof.

It can be your story, a case study from a client, or even a hypothetical story (such as a parable).

My own story drove this home for me years back. When I started online, I was a broke, college drop-out with over $50,000 in debt who failed multiple times at trying to start my own business.

I still remember what it was like to get started. I had to borrow money on my last credit card which wasn’t maxed out to get my first PC and get online.

After coming online, I found several things that didn’t work first…before starting my first profitable publishing business offering other people’s products.

Soon after I created my own product describing how I did that…started speaking to others…and demonstrated the power of email marketing in front of live audiences…earning as much as $96,250 in one email at an event.

This led to me coaching other entrepreneurs to create their own multi-million dollar businesses while they earn more, work less, and enjoy life!

I did the fast, fast version of my story above. But it still shows a few elements of the 3 P’s. I regularly expand it out on websites, interviews, and webinars.

What is your story? If you don’t have one, do you have a story about a client you can share?

Or you could even do an interview with another expert as a bonus with your offer and use THEIR story as part of your hook.

Take at least one of these advanced copywriting tricks and integrate it into your marketing, your website, or your emails today.
