A client and I were talking last week about how he could enter a brand-new market.
What would be the quickest…and lowest cost way to get started?
I suggested selling affiliate products, but he wasn’t interested in offering any affiliate products.
He wanted to release his own system, and he wanted to do it in a way that would be both low risk and fast to implement while allowing him to ‘refine’ his thinking about the market.
The solution for him was simple. It may or may not be the right path for you.
He could either create a short content rich video or cheat sheet which he could use as an ethical bribe to get people to join his list.
Put up a simple landing page offering this freebie to those who join the list.
Test several low cost ads on Facebook driving visitors to this page.
Later on he could test some video ads and a content rich landing page, but we wanted the fastest way to get started and test the market even if it wasn’t fully optimized (and nothing is perfect out of the gate).
Next he would start sending daily emails to help him refine his thinking and his message to the market.
Of course, he is going to be asking people to reply to him, share those posts on Facebook, or some other call-to-action. He doesn’t have anything to sell on day one, since he wasn’t interested in affiliate offers. And we want to get as much feedback from the audience as possible.
Within around a month or so, he will offer a paid webinar on a $1 trial.
We didn’t decide on the full price for the webinar yet as that will be based on the content he decides to deliver. In his business market, this will likely be in the $49 to $99 range.
They pay just $1 to attend the webinar. The rest of the fee is charged 3 days after the webinar. If they don’t love the content delivered, they can simply let him know…and they won’t be charged.
It makes it an easy decision for subscribers who are interested.
On the webinar, he will deliver every bit of value he can. It may be scheduled for 90 minutes, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes significantly over this.
He could even have a simple backend in place of ongoing one-on-one coaching. He could offer them a free or low cost strategy call on the webinar that transitions into month-to-month coaching.
After the webinar, the recording can be his first product for sale.
He has done his initial research, but this plan will help him get a better handle on the audience and their desires. The emails will help him refine his message. Feedback will help him better understand the audience.
If the webinar doesn’t sell, we’ll try a different offer.
If it does, he can use the questions the attendees ask to improve the product. He can use the initial relationship built on the webinar to transition into higher paid coaching.
Of course there are other ways to get started, but this is the right plan for him and his goals.
