Is it expensive to get started in this business?

No. You may already have a camcorder. While I now use an HD camcorder which cost me about $600, I've also shot DVDs successfully with a low cost $300 camcorder. My video editing software cost me less than $100.

You're obviously viewing my site with a computer. Most likely it is good enough to do the video editing you need. You don't need more expensive systems unless you want to produce high definition DVDs such as Blu-ray discs.

Do you need technical skills to produce your own DVDs?

The biggest roadblock that could stop you is if you're afraid of the computer. Obviously I use my computer quite a bit (although I probably only know 10% or less of what it can do). I edit on the computer. Produce the DVD on the computer. Then I put up a basic website on the computer.

Not too difficult, but this business is NOT for someone who hates the computer.

Can you make a lot of money quickly?

You can earn a lot of income in this business, but it not a way to get rich quick. If you need to make $10,000 by Monday as a brand new beginner, this is probably not what you're looking for. It's a long term business with a very low cost to start.
