Mastermind Your Way to Success

Mastermind HereDoing business online can be lonely at times.

You work at home on your computer…doing projects, making sales, writing, etc.

And since overwhelm is one of the biggest problems with online marketing today, it’s hard to stay focused on the right path to success for you.

As popular as social media is today, it is NOT a replacement for real relationships and meeting people in person.

One of the solutions to this is accountability. You partner up with others, a coach, a mastermind group, or even a friend working on their own online business. Someone brings accountability to the picture to keep you focused on your goals and taking step-by-step actions to lead you to success.

In addition to these methods, another way to combat “feeling alone” is through attending internet marketing events when they’re available.

I recently spoke at Mark Hendricks’ Internet Success System this past weekend. I had a fun time.

I shared with the audience how to build your own Internet Lifestyle Product Empire – the easy way to developing hot selling products online. Many of the attendees told me how much they loved this presentation and how it changed their mindset about building an online business.

In addition I took the opportunity to share and coach several people on their projects during lunch and throughout breaks.

Plus, one of the speakers Harald Anderson gave me ideas for several advertising tests I’ll do in the future. They went into my notebook for scheduled tests coming up.

Unlike online work which can drag you down over time, I ALWAYS leave events energized and full of ideas for upcoming projects.

A very productive weekend.

If you missed out on this, there’s another opportunity coming up in less than 2 weeks.

Michael Penland is hosting his famous “Internet Marketing Super Seminar” in sunny Orlando, May 7-9, 2010.

I’ll be there all day Friday, speaking and networking.

Plus, Michael has shared with me that we’ll be doing special group breakout sessions Friday evening where we’ll mastermind together on your projects.

Don’t miss it…especially not with the opportunity for a free ticket.

Here are a few ideas to get maximum value from this event…or any event you attend in the future:

1. Make a list of action steps throughout the weekend.

You won’t catch everything that’s taught and said during a weekend event. There’s too much, and trying to do so could add to the overwhelm feeling you may already have. Instead have ONE sheet of paper where you mark specific action steps for your business.

If you come up with 3 to 5 action steps over the weekend, it’s a success. Even ONE tip that changes your business is a success. If you try to fill the entire sheet with ideas, that’s simply too much to put into place at once.

2. Network with speakers and attendees.

Make friends. Collect business cards. Build real relationships which are deeper than simply retweeting someone on Twitter.

If you have questions, make them as SPECIFIC as possible. Here’s a tip for getting information out of the speakers. Come up with a quick question you can ask them over breaks…something that will greatly benefit you but can be answered quickly.

Bad question: What kind of product should I create?
Why: Way too general – and takes too long to figure out the answer in your situation.

Good question: I’m putting together a membership site about dog training and I plan to use WordPress to manage the content along with giving customers ways to add photos, participate in forums, and add their own content. Which membership site software would you recommend?
Why: You’ve given the relevant details quickly…and you asked a very specific question that shouldn’t take longer than one paragraph to answer.

You’ll be surprised what speakers and other attendees will share IF you can get your question across succinctly.

3. Buy educational courses only WHEN they fit into your upcoming plans.

Every conference will give you the opportunity to purchase educational products from the speakers and potentially trade show tables.

The key to making wise decisions here is the same rule I regularly give you…only buy products which support your current plans.

If you’re working on seo, then pick up a product that helps you with that goal. Don’t buy the product about copywriting if that’s not your current goal.

No matter how good the deal, don’t buy anything that’s going to go on a shelf until you get to it. It needs to be on the current schedule and plan.
