Here’s the common lie that virtually guarantees failure…
“Online business is easy.”
That’s right. It’s a lie. Online business is NOT easy.
Anyone who tells you otherwise has some swampland in Florida to sell you.
Or whatever they’re selling might as well be a swamp infested with alligators.
Online business can be simple, but it’s NOT easy.
And it doesn’t matter how much education or how many letters you have behind your name.
It doesn’t matter that you have a genius level IQ.
It doesn’t matter if you have the best product idea since the wheel.
All of those can be negatives…if you allow them to make you overconfident.
The market is a harsh judge.
And you’re about to experience a major reality check.
Here’s a short list of some of the stuff you need to learn…
- Research an audience.
- Set-up a website.
- Create content.
- Come up with an irresistible offer.
- Manage an email list.
- Write copy.
- Choose tech tools.
Of course, you don’t have to do it all yourself.
You can hire help, but you need to choose the right people (many of which may be full of crap).
Let’s take copywriting for example.
You can hire a copywriter to do it for you. A good one isn’t going to be cheap. And it’s tough to even know what good copy looks like unless you have at least a basic understanding of the topic.
Multiply that by all the moving pieces in an online business.
Believing it’s going to be easy…or that success will be fast…throws a massive roadblock in your way.
Everyone is promoting shortcuts.
And sure, there are quicker and easier ways to do things. I talked about the danger of overcomplicating your business in my previous email.
But easier doesn’t mean easy.
And shortcuts don’t mean overnight.
Online business isn’t for the faint hearted or the unprepared.
Imagine you’re going to hike up a mountain.
What if all the most popular guides lied about the trail up the mountain?
For example, perhaps you hear it’s a relaxing one-mile hike.
You don’t need any supplies. You can wear sandals and start the journey near the end of the day.
But what if the trail is 42 miles of grueling terrain?
You’re not going to make it. You’re going to get lost in the dark. Maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll find your way home before disaster strikes. But you’re not getting up the mountain today.
If you had a good map along with proper training and the right equipment…you could make it.
You had zero chance because you were unprepared.
That describes way too many people setting off on their online business journey.
Gurus have given them faulty maps and downplayed what was required to succeed.
I don’t want to discourage anyone from their dreams.
The Internet Lifestyle is worth it.
But you can’t go unprepared.
Know what you’re up against. Plan and act accordingly. Be prepared for a few mistakes and wrong paths.
My Golden Glove Persuasion Map can help you in your preparation.
It will help you understand your audience and clarify your message for them.
It gives you a solid foundation in some of the required skills including knowing your audience, creating irresistible offers, and creating persuasive messages (for websites, videos, and emails).
It gives you some shortcuts, but you still have to walk the walk…and have the persistence to overcome the challenges you’ll face along the way.
