Both Litmus and the Direct Marketing Association reported a $42 return on every $1 invested on email marketing.

I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if the numbers are even better recently…with more emphasis on ecommerce over the past year of COVID.

But even though I love email…and it’s been the secret of my success for the past 25 years…this number still surprises me.

Here’s another ‘unusual’ stat in my mind.

Campaign Monitor reported that 28.5% of millennials like to receive emails once a day from a brand. Another 34.3% like to receive emails several times per week. That’s 62.8% who like to receive emails from a brand at least multiple times per week.

The rest like emails once a week, once a month, or never. In addition, email was listed as their preferred channel for engaging with brands, with social media a distant second.

I recommend sending emails multiple times per week or daily. So why does the fact that 62.8% of millennials report liking multiple emails per week surprise me?

The majority of emails they’re likely receiving are coming from big brands.

And big brands often send out the most boring emails possible.

I love email, and I don’t like receiving daily emails from big brands.

For example, I was on HP’s list for a few months.

It seemed like all they sent out were special promotions almost every day.

I don’t recall a single email they sent out about their competitive advantages or anything that made them different in any way.

I couldn’t take it anymore and had to unsubscribe. And I’ve clicked their unsubscribe multiple times now and still get emails from them.

The majority of emails sent out by big corporations are lifeless. No authority or personality.

Yet, they still report how profitable email is for them.

What about little micro-businesses like us?

It’s our lifeline.

Email is our best opportunity to share our message, build relationships, and consistently make sales.

Are you sending out emails at least multiple times per week?

And are you mixing in authority & personality to set you apart from the competition?
