5 Truths about Internet Champions

Do you ever find yourself envious of those who make it all look so easy?

Whether it’s in sports, music, professional speaking, writing, or internet marketing.

They get into a flow and it just happens.

It looks natural.

At least that’s how it appears from the outside.

We don’t see the thousands of hours of practice behind the scenes.

We don’t see the struggles they faced in the beginning. We don’t see the setbacks or the times they thought about giving up. We see what happens from the stage, not the dedication it took to get where they are today.

As a coach and mentor to internet entrepreneurs I’m always looking for what makes the difference.

Why does someone excel while others struggle?

What is that ‘something special’ that sets them apart.

Here are a few truths Internet champions take to heart…

#1 – You believe in your goals.

An internet business can’t just be a ‘good idea.’

It has to become a part of you.

You have to believe in your goals…enough to keep moving even when it seems like everything is against you.

You’re moving forward even if your ad fails…your traffic dries up…and your favorite project dies.

If you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”
Henry Ford

It’s faith you can find the solution even if it isn’t easy. The beauty of Internet marketing is we don’t play nine inning games. You get to keep playing until you win.

#2 – Understanding your audience is priority #1.

It’s not about selling what you want…or even what your audience needs.

You can go broke selling what people need.

It’s about what they WANT to buy. More than that…it’s about understanding their deepest motivations…motivations they might not tell their own family…motivations they might not even admit to themselves.

You discover these desires through Amazon research, forums, and surveys. You discover them by reviewing your most successful competitors. You discover them by speaking to buyers directly about what motivated them to purchase.

When you immerse yourself in your customer’s culture, it changes you as a person.

#3 – The secret to unlimited traffic is improved conversion.

Cheap traffic isn’t the holy grail online.

The secret is being profitable with expensive traffic.

If you can convert visitors into sales better than the competition…with multiple ways to profit…then you can be profitable even when traffic is expensive.

Champion entrepreneurs keep an eye on their numbers. Reduce costs. Improve front end conversions. Add a new upsell. Offer a higher end version.

Add additional email follow-ups. Test a sales video. Add more proof. Hold a webinar. Hire a telemarketer.

#4 – Growth requires you to step out of your comfort zone.

Fear is holding you back from your next business breakthough.

I don’t know what fear you’re facing. Maybe you need to add webinars to your conversion funnel, but you’re afraid of speaking in front of a crowd.

It could be fear of losing money on your first paid ad campaign. Or perhaps you’re afraid of the rejection from writing a personal story in your email. It could be “letting go” of a few clients who are holding you back. Maybe you’re afraid of losing control by hiring an outsourced worker.

It doesn’t matter what the fear is. You’re going to have to step out of your comfort zone to get to the next level of your business.

#5 – You can’t do it alone.

This connects with the previous truth. Often entrepreneurs start off as control freaks and don’t want to let anything go. They say, “If you want a job done right, you do it yourself.”

As long as you keep that attitude, your business can’t grow beyond a basic level.

You are NOT the best person for every job. This doesn’t have to mean hiring employees. You could outsource jobs to those who are either more qualified or hand off time sucking activities.

It may mean tapping into a mastermind group or finding a coach.

It’s sometimes tough to see past our own faults…and fears. We don’t know what we don’t know.
