I recently read a story about a government employee in Spain who didn’t show up for work at his job for 6 years.
They only found him out because the deputy mayor couldn’t find him when he went to give him a 20 -year long service award.
The boss of the department hadn’t seen the man for years, even though he was in the office directly opposite of him!
Seriously, no one asked about this guy for 6 years? Is he OK?
And there was nothing he was supposed to have accomplished in that time?
This reminds me of a lot of jobs in corporate America today.
Not the disappearing act, of course, because you’re expected to warm a seat for your 8 to 12 hours a day.
No, I’m talking about the fact they were going to give him an award, for accomplishing nothing, just because he had been on the payroll for years.
Rarely does corporate America reward you for taking initiative and getting the job done.
Instead, it’s often about office politics.
He was fired as you would expect. But he wasn’t fired for his total lack of productivity. He was fired and fined for just not showing up. I guess if he showed up and did nothing, it would have been all OK and he would have got his award.
I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with that crap.
In an internet business, you’re not paid for warming a seat.
You’re rewarded for the value you bring to the lives of others.
And while that can be quite a change in mindset for someone who has been an employee their whole life, it’s also where FREEDOM comes from.
It doesn’t matter whether it takes you 1 hour or 100 hours to deliver the results.
Customers and clients pay for the results, not the time you put in.
