I made an unpopular statement in a recent email…
“Online business is NOT easy.”
Overconfidence has caused the death of many internet lifestyle dreams.
But there is another hidden danger to unrealistic expectations.
Dissatisfaction.
I’ve seen many people sabotage their own success because their projects weren’t growing fast enough.
Their website was doing well.
Their list was growing.
They were making money.
But they heard stories about other people who grew at an unbelievable pace. Maybe their social media posts went viral. Or their new product was a home run. Or they’ve scaled their advertising to 100k a month and beyond.
Sadly, the months and years building a solid foundation gets left out of those stories. Or you don’t hear about the advantages they had such as previous experience, personal connections, venture capital, etc.
Instead, the story is just about overnight growth.
Back to our successful and ‘slow’ growing new online business.
Instead of being grateful for the success they’ve achieved so far, they get impatient.
They try to implement a bunch of new ideas all at once…overwhelming and distracting themselves.
And they stop doing what got them to where they are today.
In some cases, they even jump ship for greener pastures.
They abandon a growing project because a new niche looks so much more lucrative.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t be hungry for more.
Be inspired by success stories.
Create a big, motivational vision. Plan steps to get there.
Multiply your business by 10x or 100x.
You likely have no idea of what you’re capable of yet.
But don’t despise the day of small beginnings either.
You must start somewhere.
You’ll grow to 100 subscribers and then 1,000 subscribers before you hit 10,000 or 100,000.
If you have a system that working for you, keep moving forward with it.
Refine it. Automate it. Outsource it.
Look for ways to improve on what’s already working rather than jumping to something new.
Put in the time and effort it takes to succeed.
For example, let’s say you’ve decided to grow your organic Youtube channel.
Your first few videos aren’t likely to get much traction.
You don’t have an audience yet.
And you’re probably not that great at creating videos yet.
Put in the time.
Create a schedule. It might be a weekly video, 2 videos a week, or even a daily video.
Stick to it.
Your skills will improve.
Research the types of videos that are doing well for others in your niche.
Target long-tail keyword phrases.
But even if you do everything right…it will likely take you 12 months or more to build momentum.
If you’re not willing to invest that time, it’s not worth even getting started.
What if you don’t like doing video?
Then don’t choose Youtube as your primary traffic source.
You need to create a list building plan that’s a perfect fit for you and your target audience.
Authority Lists & Traffic will help you attract ready-to-buy subscribers with a personalized list building blueprint that’s quick, easy, and fun for YOU to implement.
