Facebook is HOT.

Nielsen reported the average user spent 6 hours and 40 minutes on Facebook in September 2012.

That’s more than triple the time spent on Google…and almost 4 times the amount of time spent on Youtube.

How much time should YOU spend on Facebook?

My answer.  It depends.

Facebook can either be an incredible source of new leads and sales OR the BIGGEST waste of time imaginable.

If you’re randomly jumping all over Facebook, participating in a few groups, and trying to convert Facebook users into sales…you’re wasting time!

It’s no different than throwing dollars bills into the fireplace.

Be focused.  You’re surrounded by distractions.

Start off knowing EXACTLY who you’re targeting.

Who is your most valuable customer?

What are their interests on Facebook?

What Facebook pages do they like?

How old are they?

I love Facebook’s ad targeting options.

You can go for general topics like “weight loss” or you can zero in on precise interests such as a specific expert, a book title, or competitor names.

You can direct these visitors to your Facebook page to generate likes, but NEVER let that be your focus.

Get them to optin to your list.

The purpose of Facebook marketing is to grab targeted prospects and move them OFF of Facebook.

Facebook is the land of distraction.

Use teasers, short bites of content, and ads to grab people’s attention.

Move them into your funnel without all the bright shiny objects circling their head.

Start with regular Facebook ads.

As you grow a following on your page, expand into “sponsored stories” which can give you clicks at dirt cheap prices (as low as 3 to 5 cents each).

On Facebook, it’s all about pattern interrupt.

Use attention grabbing photos and contrarian text to get people CURIOUS about what you have to offer.

Remember, the primary reason people are on Facebook is for entertainment.

Facebook solves the “boredom” problem.

That’s why it’s so important to run FUN, entertaining, ‘pattern interrupt’ messages and ads.

You’re introducing them to your story on Facebook.

Once they optin to your list, continue the story and relationship.

Simple email makes the sale and builds lifetime customer value from each Facebook lead.
