Are you following a systematic plan for growing your business?
Or are you reacting to every new thing that comes down the pipeline?
It’s easy to become reactionary in today’s online world.
There is always a new product launch available. Someone is announcing their new breakthrough system. Your inbox is filled with new possibilities daily.
One of the hardest skills to learn is how to tune out all the noise.
Focus on simple steps that move you forward daily.
But what is it that you’re moving toward?
Are you clear on where you’re going?
Would you be able to confidently describe what it looks like when you get there?
In the book, Built to Last, Jim Collins and Jerry Porras talk about the importance of a BHAG.
That stands for ‘Big Hairy Audacious Goal.’ It’s not something you’ll accomplish this week or even this year.
They describe a BHAG as a 10 to 25-year goal that stretches your company to greatness.
Sadly, it seems like many online business owners don’t even have clear goals of where they want to be one year from now…not to mention where they want to be in 10 years.
A BHAG is a BIG goal.
It scares you.
It’s the type of goal that would sound a little crazy to others.
You could easily explain the end goal, but you may not have a clue how you’ll accomplish it.
For example, one of my clients wants to help 1,000,000 people in his market.
That’s not something he’ll accomplish next month or even next year.
He is moving in that direction daily even though the complete plan isn’t fully developed yet.
A goal like this inspires you.
It’s so exciting that it motivates you to be more, do more, and overcome more.
Jim Rohn is known for saying, “Become a millionaire not for the million dollars, but for what it will make of you to achieve it.”
Become more focused.
Develop new skills.
Put systems in place.
Connect with team members who can help you get there.
Stop bouncing all over the place. You’ll be empowered to say NO to anything outside your big vision.
Your BHAG is just the beginning.
Developing a detailed understanding of where you are now…and where you’re going…is like having a roadmap for growing your business.
