I’ve been helping one of my 1:1 clients write his initial email sequence recently, and here are a few of the lessons we’ve discussed.
He quickly got the hang of it when I shared my step-by-step email writing system with him.
It takes a little practice in the beginning, but it soon starts to feel natural.
Some people have even told me they find writing emails soothing.
Part of that comes from secret #1.
1: Share your stories.
The client I’m currently helping with his emails has over 30 years of experience in his field.
That’s 30 years of hard-won lessons.
He has a ton of advice to share with his audience, but it’s more effective to deliver much of it in story form.
What mistakes did he make…and what were the results?
What did his mentors share with him?
How has he helped others overcome their challenges?
Writing like this becomes a way to process your thoughts.
What lessons did you personally take away from each experience?
Write freely. Come back and edit it later before hitting ‘send’.
You often find you know more about your topic than you thought you did.
2: Short, snappy sentences whenever possible.
Short, one sentence paragraphs are OK in email.
In fact, they’re my default style. It makes your email easy to scan and read. Sure, you can and should mix in a few longer paragraphs, but your email should not only be easy to read, it should also look easy to read.
Hit the ‘enter’ button more often.
Read your emails out loud during editing.
Where can you add words with more emotional impact?
Are any of the words unnecessary? Which ones can you delete without harming your message?
3: Look for the ‘hidden’ message in each email.
There’s an obvious, surface message you’re sharing in every email.
But there is also an undercurrent to your message.
It’s not as obvious.
Think of yourself as a ‘tour guide’ to a new world.
You’re showing the sights. You’re sharing stories and value.
But at the same time, you should be inspiring your audience and building hope in what’s possible.
There’s a subtle mindset that’s being transferred in every message.
For example, the obvious message in this email includes several tips to help you write more profitable emails.
At the same time, I’m encouraging you to enjoy the email writing process. It can be fun. It can be freeing. It can be part of a new lifestyle where you make an excellent living while making a difference in the world.
There’s more going on in this email as well, but I’ll leave a little suspense. It’s good practice for you to try to spot it. What other ‘suggestions’ have I hidden in this email?
Autoresponder Alchemy gives you the step-by-step email system my clients and I use to consistently earn more from every email we send.
It comes with templates you can model to help you get started, but as you’ll soon see, the process soon becomes natural and second-nature.
