What is your story?
This is a key question that affects everything.
I’m going to focus on the business side here, but your stories also set the GPS of your personal life as well.
The person you are today is the result of your previous experiences and the stories you tell yourself about those experiences. If you want to change your future, you have to change your stories.
What is the story behind your business?
Why do you do what you do?
This could be a personal origin story. For example, I originally started online in 1996 because I was broke, in debt, and working a series of dead-end jobs. I heard a few stories about the Internet and bought my first PC. I experimented and soon discovered the power of email. It created freedom in my life.
But your origin story is just one of the stories you’ll talk about.
You also have stories behind your individual products and services.
I didn’t start coaching clients one-on-one till 2006…after a decade of experience online. At that time, there were a lot of gurus running high-priced ‘coaching programs’, but the majority hired ‘coaches’ from boiler-rooms that simply regurgitated information from the guru’s products.
In fact, the manager of one of those boiler-rooms tried to convince me by showing all the dollar signs they could pull out of my list.
No thank you!
My one-on-one coaching was born as a contrast to those programs. They use gatekeepers and employees to deliver the coaching. My clients get personal access to me directly. They charge a huge fee upfront for the entire year, because they know the majority will quit once they experienced the lack of support. I charge month-to-month because it’s about long-term relationships. They push everyone into a single one-size-fits-all system. I customize solutions for my individual clients and the markets they’re serving.
This is only a mini-sized version of the story, but it illustrates the why behind my one-on-one coaching.
I have numerous case studies I could share about helping individual clients as well.
There is also a story behind each of my courses.
For example, the Golden Glove Persuasion Map™ was originally born from doing hot seats at in-person conferences and online events.
Someone would ask me to review their website or other marketing piece, and I’d give quick recommendations of what could be improved. There were 5 key triggers that came up time and time again.
I’ve done thousands of reviews like this over the years. Dr. Glenn Livingston worked alongside me to develop the original Golden Glove…designed to help anyone identify and improve their conversions quickly.
I’ve continued to refine and expand on the method over the years until now I have a system where you can create a one-page persuasion map that becomes the foundation of everything you sell online.
What’s your story?
Good marketing focuses on a customer’s desires. It lists features and benefits. It lets a customer know what’s in it for them.
Great marketing wraps all that up in a story that moves the emotions.
Find your story…and you’ll demonstrate what sets you apart from the competition.
One of the bonuses that comes with my Golden Glove Persuasion Map™ course is, “Storytelling Code: How to Clarify, Inspire, and Sell with Heart-to-Heart Communication.”
This 23-page PDF shares dozens of example stories and why they’re so effective at attracting ideal clients for the companies who use them. It also goes into detail about the 8 essential aspects of your own strategic myth.
Discover how to identify your story, how to write it, and how to use it to earn more from everything you do in your business.
