Starting from scratch can look overwhelming!

There are so many options…and gurus are quick to give you a huge list of ‘should do’s’.

You ‘should’ be on this social media site. Or you ‘should’ learn everything about AI. 

On and on it goes.

No wonder it so difficult for beginners today. It can feel like you’re being pulled in a thousand different directions at once.

Keep it simple.

Choose a topic you’re interested in.

Perhaps you’re an expert because of your career. For example, my clients include a tennis coach, chiropractor, CPA, physiotherapist, stock trader, and fitness coach.

Or maybe it’s a challenge you or a family member faced…where you had to find a solution.  Clients have gone into markets like learning a new language, dog training, or natural health because of problems they had to overcome in their own lives.

Or it could simply be a topic you’re so passionate about that you love studying and talking about it. You’ve built a level of knowledge and skill based on your experience.

Make sure the topic is popular and growing by checking out Google Trends, looking up top Youtube channels, and checking out what’s selling on Amazon.

You can also narrow down the topic, but you’re often better off starting a little broad and narrowing down the topic after you begin producing content.

Choose a method for sharing your message.

If you like to write, set-up a WordPress blog.

If you love video, you could start a Youtube channel (or TikTok if you’re weird like that).

If you prefer doing interviews or have a face for radio, you could do a podcast instead.

You might focus on one of these channels…and multipurpose your content on the others.

Produce infotainment in your chosen format.

Dig deep. Put in the time…which means months and even years to grow your audience.

Begin building your email list.

Create a Lead Magnet that solves a desperate problem or fulfills a burning desire of your audience.

Your income from selling ads on your channel itself will be limited.

The ‘real’ money is in your relationship with a list.

Move people onto your list. Continue the conversation with them there.

Send offers to monetize your list.

What’s a good fit for your audience?

You could start with affiliate offers to gauge your audience’s interest. Promote other people’s products and services for a share of the profits.

If you want to maximize your income even with a small list, you could offer coaching on your topic. Start with one-on-one and expand to group coaching as demand grows (if you choose).  

You could create and launch digital courses. Or you could sell ecommerce products if they’re a better fit.

It’s all about serving your audience.

Don’t overcomplicate the process.

Start by choosing your topic and your traffic channel. Grow your list. Send offers.
