Over the past few months I’ve noticed myself feeling overwhelmed.

What’s weird is that I’ve been following many of the same routines and doing similar activities.

But I’ve felt distracted and wasn’t sure where it was coming from.

Until I finally put my finger on it.

I’ve been wasting time (and mental energy) following the news over the past 6 months.

No wonder I’ve felt overwhelmed!

The news media feeds a constant diet of mental junk food, mostly trivial matters that don’t make much of a difference in your day-to-day life.

Sure, once in a while there is a story that personally affects you, but how many hours of junk do you have to sift through to get that one tidbit?

And it’s never-ending. It’s one newsflash after another, designed to keep you watching or reading one article after another.

It appeals to your curiosity.

It keeps you living in a constant state of distraction.

I’ve allowed myself to get sucked back into it with all the ‘wild’ stories the media has been thriving on this year.

And I can feel its influence.

Today I’m making a commitment to break this cycle.

And if I’ve been suffering from it, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if you’ve faced similar challenges.

If you want to focus on what really matters in your life, you have to eliminate the distractions.

That includes the constant news that surrounds us.

In the internet marketing field, that often also means ignoring most of the merry-go-round launches and the Flavor of the Month.

Instead, focus on your audience.

Get to know them, their desperate problems, and their strongest desires.

Combine that with a knowledge of yourself and what you do well.

If you like to write, then write.

If you enjoy doing video, produce videos.

Create instead of just consuming.

Communicate with your audience.

And stay the course even when it gets tough.

It’s easy to be distracted by all the ‘new things’ appearing daily in the internet marketing field.

You hear the stories of how someone achieved ‘overnight success’, but rarely do you hear about the tough times they went through to get to that point.

You’re following a system, but you’re running into challenges. Something else sounds so much easier. The reality is you will always face challenges no matter what path you choose.

Success comes from the correct actions combined with focus and consistency.
