Curiosity is king.
It’s how you get your emails opened.
It’s how you keep subscribers reading.
It’s how you get them to click through to your website.
And it’s often how you get them to click the order button.
But what about benefits? Aren’t they important?
Of course they are. Benefits reveal what’s in it for your audience. What will they get out of it?
But you won’t get the chance to share all the benefits unless you grab and hold someone’s attention first.
You opened this blog post. You likely did so because of a combination of factors.
The blog title includes both a benefit and curiosity.
The benefit is higher opens, clicks, and sales. You want more of that!
“Open loops” are the gateway to that benefit. You were curious about what I would share about open loops and how you could use that for opens, clicks, and sales.
An open loop is a mystery.
In a TV show or movie, it is called a cliffhanger. The protagonist is left in a difficult situation, and you can’t wait to see how they get out of it. But you have to wait for the next show or the movie cuts to a different scene. It’s unfinished. You can’t get it out of your head until it’s resolved. You’re captivated by what happens next.
Open loops are a requirement in video sales letters. Otherwise, visitors will click away before you get a chance to share all the benefits. You start an attention-grabbing story, but you leave them on a cliffhanger as you transition to talking about your solution or offer. You come back to the story later.
Your subject line in an email can be an open loop.
Your reader may have hundreds of emails in their inbox.
What enticing secret or story are you teasing them with?
Your email needs to pay off the ‘check’ you wrote with your subject line.
But at the same time, you open another loop in the email itself…which leads into your product or service.
Your content is useful but incomplete.
Give value in your email itself.
You might cover the root cause of problem in detail. Or you help your readers experience an “Aha” moment as you shed light on a new perspective. Or you could provide an answer for a common question.
But email is NOT a good medium for in-depth step-by-step teaching.
That’s where online courses come in.
For example, I shared above what an open loop is and why it is so important for opens, clicks, and sales.
You could take that information and improve everything you publish by upping the curiosity factor.
But you will see a much higher impact by checking out my course, Autoresponder Alchemy.
It goes into full detail of how to combine benefit + curiosity in your subject lines.
It shows you how to create open loops and cliffhangers in your emails.
And it gives you templates you can model that make the process of creating profitable emails quicker, easier, and more effective.
It can multiply the profits you earn with email…no matter your experience level or what market you’re in.
