Have you ever went to a professional basketball game?
Take notice of how they first warm-up and practice before the game.
Do they immediately start doing 360 degree slam dunks?
Or do they do a few layups?
Pass the ball around a little?
In the games I watched they didn’t come out being fancy.
They focused on the basics.
They come out and do layups, pass the ball around, and take jump shots.
I remember when I was back in high school. I played on the basketball team a couple of years. We were a small school obviously when I could get on the team. J
But what I remember best is everyone on the team always wanted to do the fancy stuff – no look passes, alley-oops, etc.
And the coach continually told us to focus on the basics.
He made us drill passing over and over.
He made us do layups. I don’t think anyone wanted to do layups, but we did them every practice.
He made practice our defense constantly.
We didn’t want to do the basics. We wanted to be the flashy superstars, but that wasn’t what wins games. This is especially true when you don’t have much talent to start with.
Sometimes I feel like I’m acting just like my high school basketball coach with my internet business clients.
There is ALWAYS something more flashy going on than what you’re doing right now.
It always seems like there is something more exciting going on somewhere else online than following a systematic daily plan of success.
That’s part of the reason so many people experience overwhelm today.
There are 1,001 things you could be doing right now online. People who succeed though focus on just a small portion of those and master them.
Another hobby I’ve had are the martial arts.
Again there are thousands of techniques you could learn, but all those techniques won’t do you any good until they become a part of you.
What my martial arts instructors have always done is teach you a technique. Then you practice it over and over again. You keep doing it until you become comfortable with it.
It becomes your natural response.
That’s when you it’s not just something you know, but it’s something that’s a part of you. When someone attacks you, you naturally respond this way.
You could say the technique has become a habit.
Have you developed internet habits that are becoming natural to you?
I’m talking about the basics such as writing stories that connect with your audience, converting visitors into sales, and generating traffic to your site.
You need to PRACTICE your basic skills until they become second nature.
It might not be glitzy, glamorous, or the newest thing.
What is are the natural steps to success.
Do what works.
Keep practicing it until it’s natural for you.
Profit from the results.
