You’ve probably heard the saying, “The money is in the list.”
It’s true. Cultivating your email lists is the fastest way to multiple your income online.
If you’re too busy concentrating on minor elements of business while ignoring your list, you’re losing out on a fortune.
But here’s the cold hard truth.
The money isn’t in everyone’s list.
In fact, there are several ways you can sabotage your list…and turn its value to near zero.
The first and most common method is the role of the super salesperson.
That’s where every email you send is a pitch for the super-duper new, never-before-seen, solve-all-your-problems by this Saturday product.
If your list is full of hungry prospects with a desperate problem, this strategy can work for a while.
You make sales from those emails in the beginning.
But the longer someone is on your list, the more suspicious they become.
You promoted ABC as the end-all solution last month, and this month it’s XYZ.
No content. No value. No relationship.
This method sneaks up on you if you’re not careful, because it works so well in the short-term.
If you see your sales numbers dropping month-after-month…you might want to do a double take. You might have fallen into the salesperson role by mistake.
Here’s the 2nd mistake.
It’s the teacher role. Oh, this one looks good from the outside. Give value to your list. Teach them. Share freely.
Your list will love you…until it comes time to make an offer.
That’s when you’ll get all the nasty emails about how you’ve become just another sell-out.
You don’t understand. With all that giving, shouldn’t it create a loyal audience?
That’s what you’re told, but the teacher role is NOT the most profitable role either.
Teaching is good. But it’s not enough to create profitable email list.
The most profitable role is positioning yourself as a Trusted Adviser.
This goes beyond teaching, because teaching shares facts and figures.
A trusted adviser points to a path. They are a light in the darkness. They provide specific guidance about which direction to take for success in your field.
A trusted adviser is a magnet.
You attract high quality, profitable customers…while repelling those who aren’t right for you.
