My wife and I had a custom home built for us two years ago.
It was both terrifying and exhilarating at the same time (kind of like creating your own business).
What if they make a bunch of mistakes?
What if it doesn’t come out anything like we imagine it?
What if there are all kinds of ‘surprise’ costs?
You’ve probably had those same feelings about growing your own business.
We did our research and spoke to multiple builders. We visited a LOT of model homes. We shared our vision in depth and got specific quotes from 3 builders.
The builder we chose had us select a base model that we then customized any way we wanted.
They made it an open kitchen with a large granite island countertop, expanded out a huge tile walk-in shower with both traditional and rainfall showerheads, added a sliding glass door from my office to the lanai, and put an extra 20 feet on the lanai.
All of this was drawn into the home blueprints from the beginning.
They didn’t wing it as they went along.
Instead, they had not only a visual representation of what the house would look like, but it had specific measurements, electric wiring, plumbing, and everything else they needed to build the home.
What if the builder didn’t use blueprints?
Can you imagine what a bunch of contractors would put together without rhyme or reason?
It wouldn’t be a home. It would be a mess!
Our vision for the home was vital to the entire process. We spent months visiting model homes and figuring out what we wanted. We described it in detail.
Then the builder created a blueprint of it.
It took about 6 months to build from the time the plans were finished.
