One of my clients mentioned to me this past week how his ‘dead’ list has come alive!

He has a small and growing list…but he wasn’t getting any kind of response from them. No sales, questions, or any signs of life.

A couple of weeks back we made some changes to the emails he was sending.

And almost immediately he started getting replies, surveys filled out, and most important of all…ORDERS started coming in.

It didn’t surprise me a whole lot because I’ve seen these exact same results hundreds of times.

Sure, there is a place for step-by-step content in email, but there’s something much more important.

It’s personality. It’s empathy with your readers. It’s a human connection that we’re often lacking in an increasingly digital world.

You can’t just be a teacher sending one information packed article after another. You need to become a trusted adviser that not only shares value, but also points the right road to travel.

You need to both listen to your subscribers to find out what problems they’re experiencing.

And you need the confidence to say, “This is the right direction for you to travel now.”

One of the core elements of claiming that trusted adviser position is finding your unique voice.

You’re unique. You’re awesome. You have a lifetime of experience that has created who you are.

Last week I talked about how you can soar like an eagle even in a world filled with turkeys.

That’s a conscious choice you make. Be willing to be bold and help people with your voice.

How do you find your unique voice?

Here’s something Bill Hybels says, “What is the one aspect of this broken world that, when you see it, touch it, get near it, you just can’t stand? Very likely, that firestorm of frustration reflects your holy discontent, a reality so troubling that you are thrust off the couch and into the game.”

Whatever market you’re in right now…what is going on there that you just can’t stand?

What makes you so angry you can’t be quiet about it anymore?

When you talk to clients in your marketplace, why does your heart go out to them?

What are they struggling with that you know you can help…if they let you?

Find that frustration, that anger, and that desperate problem. Become an advocate for your subscriber, your customer, and your client.

Once you do, you’re taking the first step to finding your voice.
