General Patton Approach to Internet Marketing

Internet marketing

Sometimes it feels like a war to grow your internet business.

A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week.”
George S. Patton

I’ve mentioned before that the most successful clients I work with implement new projects and ideas quickly.

Once a logical plan of action is in place, they immediately put it to work. Adjustments and improvements are made along the way once results start coming in.

Those who wait for the perfect plan never get started because there is NO perfect plan until you’ve seen the response of your marketing in action.

Another element here is to KEEP IT SIMPLE.

I constantly remind myself of this phrase, because my mind loves to make overcomplicated plans. But none of that is needed. What is needed is the simpliest way to reach the goal you’ve set for yourself.

There is enough of a learning curve for a beginner getting started. You don’t need to make it any more difficult.

For example, let’s say you want to setup your very first site to promote an affiliate program.

The first step is to choose a keyword phrase you want to focus on. You could use the Google Keyword tool to find popular phrases or even go for the product name to keep it very simple. Choose a domain name with your keyword phrase in it.

Now install WordPress. Many hosts make this really easy. You’re able to do a simple installation right out of the control panel. For design of the site, just use a simple free theme. Don’t worry about premium themes on the first one you setup.

Go the Google Wonder Wheel. This can be found on any search in Google. Do a search for your chosen keyword phrase. Then click on the “More Search Tools” on the left side of the screen. Scanning down the left you’ll find the “Wonder Wheel.”

Write an article on your main keyword phrase and each of the spokes on the wheel that come out from it. If you don’t like all these subjects, you could also extend out the wheel to find even more options for your writing.

Write one article each day for a week. Promote the affiliate product at the end of each article.

The next week, go through and submit the article to EzineArticles.com, GoArticles.com, and ISnare.com (you could choose different ones if you like). Make sure to link each article in the resource box back to your original copy on your site using the keyword phrase you targeted as the anchor text.

Rinse and repeat.

You can always add more complexity and likely increase the results, but this can be done over time. What kinds of additions are we talking about?

You definitely should set-up an email list with a freebie to start capturing email addressses.

You can also sit in front of a webcam or pocket camcorder to record a quick discussion about the SAME subject as the articles.

You could work on more link building.

In other words, there is a long list of what you COULD be doing, but you want to get started with the simplicity outlined above.
