I’m thankful several people offered ‘reprint rights’ to their info products when I first started online.
If those opportunities didn’t exist, I don’t know if I would have ever gotten into online marketing.
Today there are dozens (if not hundreds) of affiliate programs in virtually every niche, but they barely existed back then.
I’ve taught thousands of people how to create their own infoproducts, but I don’t know if I would have personally had the confidence to create my own in the beginning.
I started out selling products I licensed from others.
I didn’t create my first course until I had already been profitable online for a couple of years.
People kept asking me how I was making money online. So, I put together a course to show what I was doing.
My system in the beginning was pretty simple.
It was all about the email list.
Share content online. Get people on a list.
Send them infotaining content mixed with personality to connect with them.
Sell offers I licensed from other product developers.
One of the benefits of these licenses is they also came with sales materials.
I remember one of them well.
Think of the ugliest website you’ve ever seen. This one was probably worse.
It had mismatched fonts in all different colors.
It had flashing clipart gifs.
It would hurt your eyes if you stared at it too long.
Yet, people consistently purchased from it. I duplicated the VHS video course in house and shipping it to my customers.
The page was so embarrassing that eventually my wife helped me design a much nicer looking website for it.
We got rid of the flashing gifs and the mismatched fonts.
It was a professional looking page…for the time.
But as soon as we fixed the ugly website, sales stopped coming in!
I was clueless, but I wasn’t stupid.
I put the ugly website back up.
Sales started up again.
It was several years before I realized why the ugly website worked and the professional website failed. The ugly page did one thing right. It called your attention to the benefit rich portions of the copy. Those were the gaudiest sections that almost forced you to look at them.
When I improved the design, it balanced the copy…and stopped pulling the eyes of the scanners to the most important sections.
By the way, that little tip can create a lot of income for you.
It’s not about ugly or pretty websites. It’s about calling attention to the core story and the core benefits.
That was just one of the products I licensed. There were many others.
Another time I licensed an ebook, then invested one weekend to create a bonus ebook to go with it.
That combination created an income stream of around 5k a month for several years…all based off a licensed product with some extra value added to it.
