How to Charge What You’re Worth

Are you charging what you’re worth?

That’s a question a lot of us struggle with.

And contrary to what some gurus will tell you, it’s not as simple as just raising your prices.

Because if you raise your prices, but you don’t have the demand, the value, and the authority to back it up…you may find no one is willing to pay those fees.

The fees you charge are based on the value you provide along with the authority you’ve established in the marketplace.

Maybe you can deliver amazing value and help your clients solve a desperate problem in their life or business, but it’s going to be tough to earn what you’re worth if nobody knows who you are!

On the opposite side, if you already have a large audience and you’ve built up your position as an authority in the marketplace, you can raise your rates…but can you deliver the promised goods?

The 3 key elements to charging what you’re worth are:

#1 – Demand

Tap into an already hungry audience looking for an answer to a desperate problem they’re willing to pay to solve.

#2 – Value

Can you deliver the end results your customers & clients are looking for? And is it a greater value than available from others?

#3 – Authority

Do you have testimonials and case studies that demonstrate your authority? Do you share contrarian content that brands you as an authority?

We can apply these 3 principles to any type of business from service based businesses to product based businesses.

But let’s use the example of a business consultant or coach.

You may start out consulting with any type of business owner, but you quickly find out the demand is stronger for specialists.

You find an opportunity to raise your rates when you start consulting specifically for dentists. And you also specialize in creating social media campaigns along with Facebook advertising for new patients because that’s what your clients are asking for.

You’re following the demand.

Next is the value. Do you have systems that can deliver consistent results for your clients?

Is there any way you can add additional value to your services?

One example of this would be plug-and-play systems, templates, tools, and ads they could use to grow their practice along with your services.

Or you potentially could partner, hire, or bring in an outsourced worker that does the marketing work for them.

Attaching a done-for-you service where you deliver the finished project can add a lot of value to your consulting/coaching…and dramatically increase your prices.

The third component is building your authority. Ask your current clients for testimonials and case studies. Share these on your pages and in any of your marketing materials.

At the same time, you want to position yourself as the authority.

This includes sharing content. It could mean speaking at events, publishing a book, or simply putting together free content that is laser focused on helping your ideal client.

Build your platform including your website, email list, and social media connections.

Once you put these 3 principles into action, raising your fees is only natural.

You will have enough clients coming through that you have to raise your fees!

If you still resist increasing your fees at that point, that’s where we need to look any emotional blocks that may be holding you back from raising your prices.
