Imagine you have an idea for an information product that will help your customers solve a desperate problem.

But you’re not sure where to start.

If you’re like me, admitting it’s messy inside your brain is an understatement.

Your mind is packed with ideas running in all different directions.

It can tire you out! Personally, I like watching a movie or reading fiction before bed to help shut my mind down, but that’s a whole different topic.

When creating an information product, I start with a mindmap.

This is a diagram that begins with a single concept in the center. This would be the topic of your infoproduct. From here, you connect ideas and thoughts that relate back to the topic.

Ask yourself questions.

For example, you might start with, “Who are my customers and what problems are they facing?”

Write out whatever comes to mind. They need to create a website. I’d write “Website” and connect it to “Customers.”

Other ideas branch out from the website theme.

Your next question may be, “What do my customers desire?”

This brings up multiple ideas you connect on the page.

I’ll bring in ideas from my story, from case studies with others, and the steps I follow to solve the problem.

I’ll usually even have a section that says “Bonuses” where I come up with bonus ideas for the product.

There are numerous mindmapping tools including Coggle, Mindly, and Ayoa.

Doing the mindmap helps me get all my messy ideas out on paper.

I’ll take a break for a day or two after creating the map, because my mind will make additional connections I missed on the first run through.

From there, I can organize the idea from the mindmap into a detailed outline that makes creating the product easy.

I’ve tried doing the outline first, and it’s a struggle. You get the feeling you’re missing something.

You start writing or producing videos for a course, and you get stuck or have to redo sections because new ideas come into play.

A mindmap is part of my process every time now…even when writing the newsletters for my monthly club.

That’s why mindmapping is one of the steps I teach inside the Internet Lifestyle System.

The course shows you how to create information products that produce ongoing income streams.

The second module is all about how to create infoproducts fast.

One of the lessons goes into detail about mindmapping your new product…and I show the complete mindmap of my current bestselling product as the example of how to do it.

And of course, that’s just one lesson in the full course that helps you research, create, and sell your own information products online.
