Are you looking for ways to generate more buyers for your products and services?

Of course you are.

And I’m going to let you in on a secret you can use to multiply the number of high quality buyers you’re attracting from any form of online marketing.

It doesn’t matter what form of traffic you’re using: blogging, Youtube, Facebook, PPC, solo ads, etc.

The secret for attracting more customers is knowing your customer avatar.

Who is your customer avatar and what desperate problems does he/she want solved?

Are you attracting 40 – 65 year old men with above average incomes who are frustrated and overworked in their corporate careers? They’re looking for freedom and a way out of the daily grind before it’s too late.

The message that attracts that audience may be totally different than the message you would use if you were targeting 20 to 30 year old men who are just trying to pay their bills.

Who is your audience?

Are they primarily male or female? How old are they? What are their most desperate problems or secret desires?
What products or services are they currently buying? What do they currently believe about the problem and available solutions? What is their daily life like?

Yes, I know that’s a lot of questions. Do your best to write down as much as you know about your best buyer.

This is vital to your success online. Your understanding of your best buyers will evolve over time. In the beginning, gather as much information as you can about them. As you test new approaches, products, and offers you’ll gain personal experience in how they respond and who they are.

Knowing your customer is the key to attracting more buyers from any form of traffic. You’ll know who to target, what message to use, and what to offer them when they come to your site.

So how do we collect this information?

Here are a few ways to get started.

Go over to Amazon.com and search for the categories that are most relevant to the products or services you’re considering.

Your goal at Amazon is to find hot sellers in your market and read the reviews, both good and bad (pay careful attention to the 2 to 4 star reviews especially since they’ll often more balanced). What do people like about the products? What do they complain about? What’s missing?

You can easily copy and paste pages worth of notes on what customers are looking for here.

Now go to some of the forums in your market. You can find them by searching Google. On most of these, you’ll be able to click “VIEWS” or “REPLIES” near the top of the forum and put all the most popular posts in order.

Scan these subjects and messages to see what the most popular topics in your market are.

And we’re not done yet. Check out some of the top sellers in your market. You probably already know a few of these.

If not, you can look for websites that continually rank on the most popular PPC terms in Google…or sites with high popularity in Clickbank…or sites with good affiliate payouts in any affiliate network such as Commission Junction.

Find these top performers in your market and look at their demographics using Quantcast.com, Alexa.com, and Follow.net.

Of course, once you enter the market you can run surveys of your subscribers and buyers to find out more about them and their interests. And even though many of us internet marketers love hiding in our little caves behind the computer, one of the best ways to get to know your audience is to speak to them in person or over the phone.

I’ll never forget what Dr. Glenn Livingston says about research. He says the goal of our research is to change us as a person.

You understand your customer. They’re not just a number to you anymore. You feel their pain. You’ve connected with their passion. You have empathy for them.

Once you get to that point, it’s only a matter of time until you master any form of traffic.
