You’ve probably noticed that I’m on a ‘Simplify’ kick lately.

I read a lot of books. And one of my favorites which I read for a second time recently is “Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less” by Greg McKeown.

It’s easy to be overwhelmed. Our daily lives almost guarantee this.

It seems like everyone is screaming about how you can have it all.

But you can’t. You wouldn’t even have time for it all. And if you got it ‘all’, you wouldn’t know what to do with it anyway.

You need to decide what’s important to you and focus on that.

I’m thankful I discovered the most important secret to online marketing way back in 1996.

It’s your email list. And more specifically, it’s building your authority with a hungry, buyers list.

While many marketing gurus are building more and more complicated funnels, there are few great voices telling you to focus on the essentials.

Ben Settle. Ryan Lee. Great marketers who know the value of an email list and are teaching simple business models based on it. There are a few others.

I feel a little like a broken record over the past few emails.

This is what’s essential to your success.

You can waste tens of thousands of dollars and years of time focusing on the wrong things.

An email list solves so many problems.

If you’re not sure what your subscribers want to buy, ASK THEM.

Send out an “I need your help” email. You can use that subject line a couple of times per year. Ask them your subscribers what the biggest challenge they’re facing right now.

Use emails to find your voice. Be yourself. Share your heart. Tell your origin story of why you got started originally in your business.

Write a rant about what frustrates you. Obviously I’m frustrated by the complexity most marketers are pushing today. It makes them look wise sharing their ‘advanced’ secrets, but it’s holding their customers back.

Quit waffling between ideas.

Get started today.

If you have a list, send them an email. Write it now.

Don’t even think about what you’re going to write. Just start writing about the thing that most frustrates you about your market right now.

Share your passion. Get emotional about it. Just pour it out of you.

Maybe it won’t be perfect, and that’s OK. It will be more interesting than 99% of the dribble you see online.
