Every business is telling a story.

Apple is telling a story about being innovative, stylish, and intuitive to use.

Their story is wildly effective.

It is the background for every product they release.

And they invite you, as one of their customers, to become a part of that story. You are creative, stylish, and belong to a select group.

Every major brand has a story behind it. Starbucks is an upscale coffee house experience where you can come in, grab a table, and hang out.

The story behind a Ram Truck is about getting the heavy duty job done. You’re tough and you’re dependable…just like your truck.

Compare this to another vehicle such as a Toyota Prius. Now you’re telling a completely different story. You care about the environment and efficiency.

Watch commercials for any vehicle. Listen to the language they use to describe their product. Look at the images they show. What story are they telling?

If you’re in their target market, then it may be a story you can see yourself agreeing with.

Ralph Lauren shares about their story on their website, “Ralph Lauren has always stood for providing quality products, creating worlds and inviting people to take part in our dream. We were the innovators of lifestyle advertisements that tell a story and the first to create stores that encourage customers to participate in that lifestyle.”

Your business is telling a story…whether you know it or not.

Often the story can influence our buying decisions almost subconsciously…especially if it’s a story we personally resonate with.

What story is your business telling?

One of the stories you can tell is your “Reason for Existence.”

Why does your business exist? Why was it created?

With all the other ways a customer could solve their problems, why did you add ANOTHER product or service to an already crowded marketplace?

Just because you had a grand idea to make a lot of money for yourself is NOT a good enough reason. They want to know what’s in it for them.

For example, in the internet marketing industry all the conflicting advice is overwhelming. There are so many options and paths you can choose. It’s really hard to navigate on your own without a mentor or coach.
