Then you can establish a moat around your online business that’s tough for competitors to cross.
People crave a sense of purpose.
They’re desperate to connect to a community of likeminded thinkers.
They’re looking for someone they can plug into…who’s willing to speak out against the injustices they see in their market.
What’s wrong with the world we live in? More specifically, what’s wrong with the industry you’re in?
Call out those problems…speak passionately about them…and give a contrarian solution.
Yell from the rooftops, “Why isn’t anyone else talking about this?”
My mind goes back to an old letter written by Gary Bencivenga.
The big headline was “Lies, Lies, Lies!”
That’s pure emotion. Of course, there was a promise in the rest of the headline, “Why we investors are fed up with everyone lying to us! But getting rich is the best revenge…Smartest ways to do it in 2007. Best and worst investments now.”
But he started that conversation by appealing to the dominant emotion in the market.
This isn’t just about writing an attention-grabbing headline.
It’s about the message you’re consistently sharing with your audience.
Are you a voice crying in the wilderness?
Are you an advocate for your audience?
Are you getting them to nod their head along with you?
Do that…and you become a tour guide to a whole new world.
You can be surrounded by competitors.
But you’ll be able to carve out your share of the market…even in a noisy, overwhelmed world.
