Since I’ve been I’ve been online since 1996 and have been referred to as a “Grandfather of Internet marketing,” are there any things that haven’t really changed over the years?

We have a lot of exciting trends ahead of us…
Mobile will continue to grow. If your sites aren’t responsive, what in the world are you waiting for?
Video is not only multiplying, but coming close to being essential.
Advertising is going to get more expensive as competition continues to expand.
All those trends are obvious. They’re a given. We see growth and change constantly online.
But there are strategies that been true forever…and will continue to be true.
Direct marketing principles are vital. You find an audience and speak to them directly. You make strong offers that tell them what’s in it for them.
You track your marketing to see what’s working and what’s not.
I used content marketing on day one of my online business. Back in those days when dinosaurs roamed the Internet, it was simple free reports offered on a Compuserve forum.
Now it’s videos, webinars, blogs, and social media.
The most profitable action I took early on in my business was building a list of prospects and customers by giving away useful, valuable content.

The techniques and tools have changed…and multiplied our reach.
It’s exciting! But at times it can also be overwhelming.
My recommendation for 2015 is NOT to be distracted by the technology.
Use it. Take advantage of what’s available.
But focus your attention on proven direct marketing principles for generating income.
- Choose an audience. Listen to them. Give them what they want.
- Create useful, entertaining content from a contrarian perspective.
- Get people to raise their hand and join your lists. Make them a part of your community.
- Send offers to your list. Use deadlines. Watch your numbers.
- Partner with others in your niche. Connect with influencers.
Do the above in 2015 and you’ll see results. You’ll move keep moving forward in your business.
If you try to jump on every new “hot” trend, you’ll simply end up distracted and overwhelmed.
I’ve seen it happen way too often.
Someone is excited about the new breakthrough they discovered…and they forget the basics.
There won’t be any new discoveries in 2015, 2016, or 2035 that eliminate the need to listen to your audience. There won’t be any shortcuts that remove the need to provide some type of content. And partnering with others in your market will never go out of style.
Use all the new, exciting tools we’ll have available in 2015…but never allow yourself to get distracted from the skills that bring in the money.
And one of those skills is knowing how to create order producing emails.
