Do you want to generate more leads and sales from your websites?

That is a hearty YES for most of us.

My #1 tip for creating higher converting landing pages is to use the Golden Glove.

The five fingers of the Golden Glove are:

  • Desperate Problem: Who is this for and which problem are you addressing for them?
  • Unique Promise: Why should they choose your solution as compared to every other option in the market?
  • Overwhelming Proof: Why should they believe the solution is for real, that you’re a credible person to do business with, and that it will work for them in particular?
  • Irresistible Offer: How will you make it more painful for them to walk away than to purchase?
  • Reason to Act Now: Why must they take action TODAY?

Get in the habit of answering those five questions for every landing page, video, email, or anything else you create…and you’ll see higher conversions.

Here are 5 more tips to improve your conversions…

#1: Use an inverted pyramid.

Lead with your most important information at the top of your landing page. When writing the headline block, I’ll sometimes use a pre-head, larger main headline, and a smaller post-headline. 

My goal is often to call out the audience and the problem, make the strongest unique promise, and back up that promise immediately with a proof point. 

Get those initial 3 P’s of the Golden Glove in the first screen of information when possible. It can’t always be done, but you do want to lead with your strongest hook right upfront (don’t bury it deep in the website).

#2: Keep it simple.

Your website needs to look professional, but your design can be simple.

How complicated is Google’s front page?

That fancy (and expensive) design you’re considering may look great on your desktop, but how does it look on mobile?

I’ve seen many tests where a gorgeous design hurt conversions, because it takes the emphasis away from your core message.

#3: Make your calls-to-action clear and visible.

Use contrasting colors for your call-to-action buttons so they stand out from the rest of your site.

Some of those fancy sites I mentioned above did poorly because the buttons fit in so well with the rest of the site that some visitors didn’t see them.

Use call-to-action text that tells visitors what’s in it for them.

For example, “Download Your Free Checklist” is better than “Submit.”

“Grow My Business” is better than “Subscribe.”

#4: Share your story.

What’s your story? Or what’s the story behind this offer? Or what about a case study of a customer who had a problem you helped them solve?

Many times, you can expand the 3 P’s of Problem, Promise, and Proof inside a story.

This allows you to add in some emotional benefits based on your experience or someone else’s that you may not be able to promise directly.

And stories are so much more memorable.

#5: Create and test new landing pages faster.

Fail fast.

What in the world does that mean?

You want to be able to come up with an idea and test it quickly. If it works, great. If it doesn’t try something else.

This means you need a way to create your new landing pages and test them quickly.

If you have a reliable webmaster who can implement your suggestions quickly, that’s great.
