One of my clients mentioned yesterday that he was feeling bored in his business.
He couldn’t quite put his finger on it. He is making great money. He enjoys helping his customers.
It just wasn’t as exciting as it used to be.
As I started digging, he shared how he had already accomplished his primary goals of becoming financially free. And he was comfortable. Maybe a little too comfortable.
Money is coming in. Customers are happy. And life is easy.
And that was the problem.
He needed a Big Hairy Audacious Goal….something that was big enough to scare him.
I’ve been through it enough times myself and coached enough clients through it to recognize the cycle now.
When you start out as a budding wet-behind-the-ears entrepreneur, you’re excited about the possibilities. At the same time, you’re a little bit terrified of the path to get there.
What if this doesn’t work?
You have a whole host of things you have to learn.
And you have a pile of goals to accomplish.
Eventually you knock them out one-on-one. You learn. You experiment. You test. And you reach each of your goals.
You have more than enough money coming in.
You get satisfied. You get comfortable.
And you get bored.
You need a new challenge. Sure, it’s going to be a little scary too…just like it was when you got started.
You’re going to feel those butterflies each time you start down a new path.
If you’re successful online, at some point you had to step out of your comfort zone to get to where you are today.
When you build your business correctly, eventually you have the systems down. They’re flowing and possibly even growing without you doing anything different.
But the dissatisfaction sets in when there aren’t any new giants to conquer.
Learn something new. Do something that makes you nervous. Slay a bigger giant.
I don’t know where you are in your online career.
You may be at the beginning.
You may be in the fast growing phase.
Or you may be on that plateau and not quite sure which direction to go next.
Take this as a kick in the pants. Choose to do something you’ve never done before. Move forward.
And no matter where your business is on the spectrum, email is one of the secrets to moving to the next level.
Each new breakthrough in my business has always included an email component.
Understanding the value of building a list and sending consistent emails was my first breakthrough.
Running money-on-demand offers was another.
Discovering how to combine email with other forms of promotion such as webinars, phone, and direct mail took me even further.
And of course everything else I’ve done has always tied back into email promotions to my list.
