I tend to overthink everything.

This means going through all the possible scenarios and coming up with solutions for them.

That can be OK if it simply means creating a plan A, B, C, and so on.

But it becomes destructive if it leads to Analysis Paralysis.

That’s one of the most common ailments we face as online business owners.

There are so many options, choices, and distractions that it can keep you from moving forward.

So, if you’ve ever suffered with these problems, I know where you’re coming from.

One of the places many clients have reported getting stuck is in choosing their message.

What should they write about?

What does their voice sound like?

My advice on this topic is pretty simple.

Stop trying to figure it out in advance.

Start writing about your topic instead.

Or if you prefer talking it out, that’s OK too. You could get someone to interview you with a series of questions designed to get you telling stories.

You don’t ruminate to find your message and your voice.

If you write freely, it will start coming out.

That means writing without self-editing.

Tell your internal filter, “Shut up!”

Write first. Edit later.

You can’t write with the brakes on.

Write emails.

Even better would be writing them daily.

Emails are short bites of content that don’t need to go too in-depth on a topic.

Each day can take a different angle or topic.

In the beginning, you might jump all over the place.

But keep doing it, and you’ll soon find your rhythm.

You’ll find your stories.

You’ll stumble upon your message.

It doesn’t matter if you have a teeny-tiny list. You have to start somewhere.

As you find your message, you’ll start attracting those who resonate with you.

If you want, you can multi-purpose those emails as well. Add them to a blog for search traffic. Post them to social media or pull a quote from them for social media. Shoot a video on the topic. Collect a series of emails together to become a lead magnet or the foundation of a book.

Quit worrying about getting all your ducks in order before you get started.

Get moving first…and you’ll find your path.
