I was talking to a client recently and this popped out of my mouth, “FEAR is not a business plan.”

This client was resistant to making changes and moving forward because they were afraid a mistake could put them in the negative.

That’s a terrifying place to be!

And it’s also the time when you have to make changes.

Who wants to simply tread water in business?

You’re not moving forward. You’re not moving backward. You’re just staying in place, barely keeping your head above water.

How long can you do that?

Maybe a month…a year…several years?

I’m sure there are businesses who just exist for a decade or longer.

They may be ‘making it’, but the entrepreneur on the inside is dying.

And here’s the reality.

If you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backward. It may be slowly, but competitors will eventually pass you by. The cost of advertising will increase. If you’re not growing, you’re dying.

FEAR is not a business plan.

Business requires some risk.

There’s no way around it.

Creating a bigger vision will inspire you, but it will also scare you at the same time. Because it’s going to mean change. And change isn’t always easy, especially in the beginning.

The risks we’re talking about are small, measured risks where possible.

Don’t gamble your future on the lottery or a roll in the casino.

Get to know your audience.

Look at what they’re already buying.

Come up with a plan with milestones along the way.

Ask for feedback from others with experience.

And start making progress toward your first goal.

You’re probably going to have to learn new skills.

And it’s going to be scary at first.

I’ve been doing this for over two decades, and I still get a little nervous when launching a new product or funnel.

Are those nerves or excitement?

The life of an entrepreneur is a life of adventure.

You get to create. You get to make a difference in the lives of others. And you get to experience financial rewards along with the fulfillment and freedom that comes with them.

But it all comes to a grinding halt when you get stuck in place.

What’s the next step in your business?

Where are you going…and what’s the plan to get there?
