It’s a common question I get from both new clients and members.

“Is my email list dead?”

Maybe you’re sending emails, but it seems like they disappear into a black hole.

Low opens. Few clickthroughs.

And no sales. That’s the metric that matters.

The first instinct for a lot of people is to declare “Email is dead!”

Next thing you know, the sky is falling. Nobody is reading email anymore. Social media killed it.

I hear that stuff constantly.

Yet, at the same time, I see the numbers in my own business and behind-the-scenes of numbers of clients in all different markets.

Email is still the #1 profit generator in the majority of these businesses.

Yes, some are running ads direct-to-sale. They use email to follow-up and make more sales to customers on the backend.

They’re using social media.

Some are using texting and direct mail as part of their funnel as well.

But email is a major component in their sales process.

If it’s not converting for you, don’t blame the medium.

Maybe you’re not attracting the right audience.

Or you’re not sending the right kind of messages.

Or you’re not making irresistible offers.

There are a few steps I suggest when a client says their list is dead.

First, run a “I need your help” email where you ask what the biggest challenge they’re currently facing with your topic.

You want to know so you can produce content on the topic. Keep the email simple. For an unresponsive list, I’d have them simply hit ‘reply’ to give their answer. You want the process as easy as possible.

Good marketing always starts with the customer. Respond back to them. You might find, like several clients recently have, this simple survey process creates sales from dialoguing with your subscribers.

Next, run an irresistible offer with a hard deadline.

Put together the best, most benefit rich package you can based on what your subscribers want to buy.

Offer it at a special price for no more than 7 days max…but more frequently 3 to 5 days.

Run an email sequence during this period where you highlight the benefits along with case studies from others. The last day should have multiple emails where you push the reason to act now…the special is over at the deadline.

Both of those methods can spark some life in a ‘dead’ list, but the most effective method is consistently sending out emails that connect on an emotional level with your subscribers.

That doesn’t just mean content. We’re overwhelmed with content today. You need to demonstrate you understand the problems they’re facing, help them find solution to those problems, and steer them toward your products and services.
