I discovered the secret for consistently earning income online 23 years ago.

That secret is email.

Attract a passionate audience with a desperate problem or a burning desire.

Consistently send emails.


Here’s the funny thing. Email is STILL the core profit center for me and most of my clients.

But there are so many more ways to attract subscribers today!

Take social media for example. I’ve heard for years how it was the death of email. Yet many of my clients are building massive lists using various social media sites both organically and with paid ads.

When you have a hungry buying audience, you can sometimes go directly for the sale.

We’ve been doing that a lot lately with paid ads on Facebook.

A buyer list is way more valuable than a free subscriber list.

That brings me to one of the biggest mistakes I see people make with email today.

They just look at the size of the list.

That’s almost a worthless metric.

Yes, a list of 10,000 subscribers that came from the same traffic source at the same time with the same offer and was cultivated in the same way is more valuable than a list of 1,000.

But did you notice how many conditions I put on that statement? And I probably missed a couple.

Let’s take lead magnets for example. This is the free gift you give someone to entice them to join your subscriber list. Sometimes it’s also called an ethical bribe.

How congruent is it with the first paid offer you make to your new subscribers?

This is vital.

It needs to lead people directly to your offer.

One of the metrics I look at for list building today is how much we earn within the first 24 hours after someone joins the list.

That’s right…the first 24 hours.

You give your freebie and it dovetails directly into an offer.

That means your lead magnet has to be on point. If you’re selling a product on how to improve your golf drive, your freebie might be a video on one simple trick to add 10 yards to your drive the very next time you play.

You deliver your free tip at the beginning of a video that transitions into your product offer.

Or you thank them for subscribing and tell them their free video has been sent to their email. Then you go directly into your product offer. When they check their email, they click the link to watch the free video tip on your page. On your page, directly under the video is a link back to the product offer.

Later that day they get another email for the new subscriber product offer again.

Then the email sequence begins. The key here is Infotainment.

Entertain and inspire. Give value. Build a relationship. Make the sale.
