The first question on the survey I sent out last month was…
What’s the single biggest problem or challenge you’re facing in your online business?
Several subscribers answered, “choosing a market that’s not already saturated.”
Good luck with that!
If there is money in the market, it’s likely already saturated with competitors.
While a market unicorn may be out there, I wouldn’t rely on coming up with completely fresh idea that the other 7.7 billion people on this planet haven’t thought of yet.
Competition doesn’t make me nervous.
All of my clients sell in saturated markets: tennis, golf, dogs, accounting, SEO, marketing, stock trading, etc.
They go where the money is.
And wherever there is money…competition flourishes as well.
I have a client who owns a restaurant. Have you noticed you’ll often see a whole bunch of restaurants all bunched up together? Very few choose to be in some far-off location where there is nothing else around them. They want to be in front of the hungry crowds!
Quit looking for a wide-open market.
Instead, find a market that has money in it.
Customers are already consistently buying products and services to solve their desperate problems.
Cater to a more affluent segment of that market.
Come up with a unique hook or big idea.
Analyze the customers and your competitors.
What wants are going unfulfilled?
Where are competitors dropping the ball?
How can you create a more effective solution for a segment of the market?
Here’s an even more important question…
How can you create a more memorable experience for your customers?
Give them hope. Help them see what’s possible. Inspire them.
Communicate consistently with your tribe in their language.
Tell your story.
Demonstrate proof by sharing case studies from others.
Build authority by describing the root problem in more detail than your competitors…and often even better than they understand it themselves.
Make an irresistible offer.
Then surprise them by delivering on your promises.
Create a series of stair steps and other solutions that help them reach each of their goals while multiplying the lifetime value of each customer.
If you can convert more of your visitors…and you can earn more from each one than the competition does…then it doesn’t matter how many competitors you have.
You can carve out your own niche in a large, profitable market.
