The 4th of July is when Americans celebrate Independence Day.

My personal Independence Day occured back in 1996.

I was broke and in debt…working a slew of deadend jobs with little hope in sight.

The Internet was just beginnning to break into common thought back then, but I could see the opportunity.

My first PC was a Pentium 75 purchased from Best Buy on a credit card.

That dinosaur wouldn’t even hold a candle to the smartphones we have today.

It was the beginning of my freedom.

Where would I be today if I didn’t take that chance?  I don’t even want to think about it.

There weren’t any internet marketing trainers back then.  Few ebooks were available.  Everything had to be learned by trial and erorr.

Luckily it didn’t take long until I stumbled upon the secret.

My income was directly proportional to my email list.

That discovery led to my Independence Day…the day I was no longer at the mercy of my crappy job.

It’s a freedom that’s hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it.  You become the captain of your own ship.  You have the power to set your own course.

It’s a feeling of control instead of the helplessness which ruled my life before.

It is independence.

Since then, the internet has went through a myriad of changes.

Search engines has risen and fallen.  Video is becoming the standard.  Social media is the subject of the day. And it’s quickly moving mobile.

But email has stayed the rock.

It’s the foundation of everything else in this business.

My strategy isn’t about the “quick hit” or making as much as you can from your customers immediately.

It’s about building relationships and trust.  It’s about giving value and making connections.

And it’s about long-term results both for my clients and I.

And this has held true for the 16 years since my Independence Day.

Email is the power app that drives my business and countless others.

How are you using it today?

And do you give it proper respect in your system?

It’s not about just sending sales pitches.  It’s about giving content, motivating your subscribers, and sharing personal stories.

It’s about both content and connection.  It’s about branding yourself in your subscriber’s minds as the premier choice for what you do.

Tomorrow I’m sharing my step-by-step system for writing emails and making sales in a special Independence Day webinar.

It’s part of “Celebrating Independence” week put together by David Perdew.

Experts such as Kevin Riley, Nicole Dean, Joey Smith and others have come together to teach the fundamentals that led to our independence online:

This includes traffic generation, email marketing, content creation, affiliate marketing, and social marketing.

It’s already taking place through a series of webinars this week.

Every session is recorded.   You can access all of them at your convenience.
