It’s Thanksgiving here in the US.

While supposedly it is about giving thanks, it’s mostly about eating.

And sales. Lots and lots of sales will be filling your inbox today and tomorrow.

You may have the opportunity to pick up some deals on products to grow your business as well.

My caution is to not get mesmerized by the bright, shiny objects (BSOs).

Someone is going to offer you the latest, greatest way to trick Facebook or Google and create a list building tornado.

If you’re looking for the next big thing, that’s tactical thinking.

Instead, think strategically about traffic and how to create a system that continues to grow your message and your audience year-after-year.

Tricks can have short term use, but you’re better off thinking about how you can bring more value to a larger, more defined audience.

The basis of long-term quality traffic is delivering value to a hungry audience.

Here are the questions you should be asking yourself:

  • How can I provide more value to a larger audience?
  • How can I make a greater difference in people’s lives…even for those who never purchase from me?
  • How can I position myself as a trusted advisor who will guide them to the right solution for them…whether it’s with my company or not?

It’s about serving people instead of just selling them.

You might tell someone your product isn’t right for them and their goals, even if they have money-in-hand.

And at the same time, you’re willing to ask for the big sale, when you know it’s in the best interest of the customer.

It’s about finding the desperate problems in your market, understanding them better than even the customers do themselves, and directing them with empathy to the right solution for them.

Take this attitude and begin educating your future customers, especially about the depth of the problem.

Don’t give cold, boring content.

Mix your content with stories and personality.

Truth mixed with humor goes down easier. Share with them through emails, blog posts, videos on Youtube, social media, and any other solution.

Be a guest on podcasts. Write a Kindle ebook. Run a summit. Build a Youtube channel. Start a Facebook group.

All these methods position you as a trusted advisor to your audience.

They’re not ‘push-button’ easy so rarely are they the new flavor of the month in traffic.

But they’re the methods that attract high lifetime value buyers.
